May 2004 - Discussion group notes

Spiritual Pathways led by Peter and Karen Hanley

Journeying technique

Our key spiritual experiences - recalling meaningful experiences from early in life to present day. Built into a group energy held by the facilitators, in the form of a flight on an aeroplane.

Demonstrated that we have more skills and resources than we think we have; to interpret what we mean by spiritual experience/meaningful experience. Most discussion was around positive experiences, and some was around challenges from the past.

Amongst the metaphors that we listened to were the theme of water, an invisible magic carpet made visible, family holidays on a beach and encountering the beach mission people, being brought up on a beach with a dog, experiences as a teacher, and - what is a spiritual experience? Have I had any? How would I recognise it? In our language, how do we define spirituality, what we mean by it-we had diverse thoughts on this.

We ended with thinking individually about our next steps on that spiritual pathway, whatever we perceive it to be.
