The Western Union of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches

May God enfold us and surround us;

May God be in our words and in our thoughts;

May God be in our waking moments and in our times of hope.

Welcome!

This website gives information about Unitarian congregations in the south west of England

The Western Union of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches is the assembly of Unitarian and liberal Christian churches in the West Country (that is, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and south Gloucestershire).

There is a list of Unitarian churches in the West Country here, with times of services and contact details.

The Western Union provides mutual support for the individual churches and endeavours to ensure that we are stronger together than we can be separately.  This is expressed in the goals of the Western Union, which are here.

What is our faith?

There is information on the Unitarian approach to religion on a number of national Unitarian websites.  There are links to some of them below.

Each of the churches within the Western Union has a different approach to worship and faith.  Some are essentially in the Christian tradition, while in others you will find a more 'humanist' attitude prevailing.  Some prefer the traditional form of non-conformist worship, while others are more inclined to experiment with new service forms.

What unites is a dedication to the liberal approach to matters of faith and a reluctance to be tied down by creeds and dogmas formulated by others.  The denomination places emphasis on open-minded religious education, which challenges us to assess and evaluate, but also to celebrate, our religious paths.  There is information on religious education material here.

The Unitarian Church is a numerically small denomination and some congregations in the West  are more 'vital' than others.  But in all of them I am sure that any visitor will find him or herself warmly welcomed.

Take time to read, take time to think; it is the road to wisdom.

Take time to laugh, take time to love; it is the road to being alive.

Take time to give, take time to pray; it is the way to God.

And may God's blessing be with us on our roads and our meetings this week.
